Yamashita Tomohisa in Propose Daisakusen
We went to see Yamapi filming for his first regular drama in over a year. He’s cut his hair short and dyed it brown for the show. It’s still quite cold outside, but we found Yamapi fighting passionately in short sleeves as a high school baseball boy!

He was hit so hard he fell and bumped his head on the ground. A total body blow!!

Sometime’s he’d miss the ball because it was too bright to see it and then we’d get shots of him like this with a little frown on his face (lol).

Ken is a substitute player so still has a totally clean uniform. His number is 14.

I won’t lose to the cold north wind or the freezing water!!
● “Aw man, it’s freezing~!” Although it’s already spring, it was still quite cold the morning we visited the set. Yamapi showed up on the baseball field wearing a baseball cap sideways and a big bench jacket to keep himself warm. Today’s filming starts with a scene where his character, Iwase Ken (23 years old), time travels back to his high school days. The scene here is when Ken was in the Tokyo Preliminary Round for the Koshien baseball tournament. Ken is totally surprised by his sudden change in surroundings when he time travels, and so he’s hit with a baseball and passes out. It’s then that his worried friend Tsuru (played by Hamada Gaku) throws water on Ken’s face to wake him up. If they mess up filming the water scene it will take awhile to redo it, so they all take rehearsal very seriously. The set felt nervous as it then became time to start filming. On the first take Hamada-kun’s head got in the way of the camera and they had to start over. This involved drying off not only Yamapi’s face and hair, but the bench and surroundings as well.When they got an OK on the second try Yamapi and the staff all shared a high five. After that, they moved on to a scene with Ken angry at Tsuru. For this scene, the tempo of the dialoge was key. It took 5 takes for them to get an OK from the director, and they both looked relieved when it was over. Yamapi commented “My voice is getting hoarse even though this isn’t a concert!” However he stayed energetic throughout the rest of their filming.
● During a break, Hiraoka Yuta who plays Enokido Mikio invited Yamapi to go play catch ball with him. Yamapi replied with an excited yes and they headed to the outfield. Hamada-kun soon joined up, and the three of them formed a triangle to play catch ball. When they were done, Yamapi came back sniffling and grabbed a tissue for his nose. We asked if he had spring allergies but he replied “I’ll never admit I have spring allergies!” We couldn’t expect less from a man who hates to lose even to himself. Once he blew his nose it was back to filming.
● The stadium’s stands were filled with extras, whose yells of excitement chased the cold away when Yamapi came out with a mic to talk to them ♪ All the extras had to dress in summer clothes for filming! Good job everyone!!
