Translation: 5 more minutes until your smile :: KoyaShige portion :: duet 08.2011

Two page translation from duet magazine’s August 2011 edition.

Koyama and Shige have a crosstalk about “waiting” and “meeting up” with people. Some amusing KoyaShige interaction and stories about what they would do when meeting with a girl. Also a brief mention of Massu and Maruyama’s visits to see Rokugatsu no Bitter Orange!

[page 1]

If you’re going to meet someone, where do you actually meet?
Kato: I always meet them at the store or restaurant. I don’t normally decide where we’re meeting ahead of time I guess. My friends and I just decide on a basic area like “Let’s meet in Shibuya at X o’clock!” What then happens most often is that once we arrive we message each other to find out where we are.
Koyama: Same with me. I don’t generally decide where to meet, or even when. I’ll just message my friends like “I just finished work, where are you? I’ll join you!”
Kato: Eh? If you don’t pick a time to meet then you’re just troubling the other person. They have no idea when you’ll want to hang out.
Koyama: But I like not deciding and just being general about it. Ideally I wouldn’t want to leave my girlfriend waiting outside so I guess I’d say “I’ll come get you when I’m done work”.
Kato: Oh, I see.
Koyama: But if it was a date I would definitely decide where we’re going ahead of time. It’d be lame if you were just like “What should we do?” when your girlfriend asks where you’re going (lol).
Kato: So you decide ahead of time so you can pretend like you just came up with the idea when she asks, right?
Koyama: Correct! I want to show that I’m a guy who can do things right ♪

Are you the type to arrive early when meeting someone?
Koyama: Shige, aren’t you?
Kato: No, I arrive just on time.
Koyama: If was going to meet a girl I’d make sure to arrive on time so I don’t leave her waiting. But with my friends I often arrive 15 minutes late. I plan on arriving on time but just always end up late.
Kato: Yeah, I know!
Koyama: I’m always the one late when we meet up, aren’t I. That’s happened a lot. Me being the one late (lol).
Kato: Really~ and once you suddenly cancelled on me too, remember? You promised “Let’s go shopping and then go see that play!”… but then you didn’t show up. And when I called you didn’t pick up… I just had to keep waiting. In the end we made it in time for the play but you kept me waiting the whole time. You should have just called me if something came up… Ever since that day I’ve confirmed that you’re the kind of person who is always late.
Koyama: Oh! You’re going to accept me for being late all the time? I’m really sorry about that one time!
Kato: It’s fine if you show up late to meet up with me. But when there are other friends or new people I want you to try and get there first.
Koyama: Hahaha. Because I’ll make everyone talk and help things go smoothly for when you get there right? (lol)
Kato: Right. Like if our friends are having a party that people I don’t know might show up at I wait for you at the door (lol). I don’t like feeling like I’m playing an away game. I’m jealous of how you can just walk in like “Hey, sup!” even when surrounded by people you don’t know. Sometimes when you’re not around I think “This would be so much easier if Koyama was here” (lol).

How do you spend your time waiting for someone?
Kato: I generally read a book or listen to music.
Koyama: Same. Also sometimes I read manga or take a walk.
Kato: Koyama, you used to never read books at all but now you’ve become a total bookworm!
Koyama: I’m reading a book by Higashino Keigo now.
Kato: I’m reading this book my friend recommended to me saying “This one’s good!”. It’s really philosophical. There are still a ton of books I want to read though. I often bring a book around to read in case I have some downtime.

Please say one word to your girlfriend who arrived late for your date!
Koyama: “What’s wrong” First I want to know the reason she was late. I wouldn’t get mad and be all “What do you think you’re doing!!”.
Kato: I’d probably say “It’s cool, I just got here too”
Koyama: You have to put yourself above the girl, don’t you (lol). But wouldn’t you be disappointed if you were waiting for a girl to show up and then got a text like “I just woke up”?
Kato: Yes. I don’t really like girls who are really loose with time. It makes me worried they’re loose with other things too. And if they were late to a first date I’d think “I’m trying my best but they don’t really seem to care about this much”.
Koyama: But I’d forgive them if they had a cute excuse. Like if she said “I was so nervous last night I couldn’t get to sleep… and now I’m late!” I’d be like “Ohoho ♥!” (lol)
Kato: That’s so cute you’d have to forgive her!
Koyama: But Shige, you seem like the type who would suddenly tell a girl “That one day I said I had just arrived I was actually waiting for hours” six months after it happened (lol). Like how you just told everyone about that time you had to wait for me.
Kato: I remember all of that kind of stuff, so I might bring it up. But if I say it with the right timing it’s just funny so there’s no harm done (lol).

This time please tell us what you’d tell your girlfriend when you showed up late
Koyama: I’d joke a bit saying “Are you mad?” but then tell her “I’ll make it up to you today!” and do my best on the date!
Kato: I’d go down on my knees and bow in apology (lol). The other day my friend came to my house to pick me up but I was still sleeping. I made them wait like 10 minutes but then said sorry and bowed on the ground like that. It was perfect since it showed I was really sorry and made them laugh a bit.

If you were to go on a date this summer where would you like to go?
Koyama: I wonder where would be best. Maybe the pool? …no. I want to go to Bali or the Maldives! I want to go to a resort and relax in a nearby cottage.
Kato: Going on a date in a resort area, that’d be nice. I think fireworks would be nice too, I’ve never gone on a date to see fireworks. It’d be perfect if the show started while you were still trying to push through the crowds. And you start talking together like “Oh, you can see some there!”, trying to catch glimpses through all the surrounding buildings. Wouldn’t that be awesome? Uwaa, I can’t stop (lol).
Koyama: Hahaha. A date to see fireworks while wearing yukata would be really nice!
Kato: Yeah! I want a kind of manly colored serious yukata. Maybe I should get one order made. When I was a kid my grandma often put me in yukata. Like this one with kabuto beetles printed on it (lol).
Koyama: When I was a kid I wore happi coats a lot.

Lastly, share with us a story about you waiting somewhere!
Koyama: When I’m on location for news every, I always spend any downtime or transportation time reading. The director told me the other day “You’re always reading, aren’t you?”
Kato: I’m currently still doing my play but when I have downtime between day and night shows I never read. I stretch, work out with a balance ball and shower. And since I have a scene where I play the guitar sometimes I practice that.
Koyama: I like when you have downtime doing a play. It’s nice because you can just relax in your own backroom with your computer and everything.
Kato: The other day Massu and Maruyama-kun came to see my play. Maruyama-kun told me it was funny and all kinds of other thoughts he had on it. But I told him that I liked his plays too and we ended up complimenting each other (lol). Massu was like “Shige, it was funny~” and that was all. He really said just that and then left.
Koyama: Ahaha! That seems like something Massu would do. The two things I’m waiting for most this summer are your play and drama (Hanawake no Yonshimai). I’m really looking forward to them, so good luck!
